Good news first: all four health funds have branches in the city, there is an urgent-care centre open late and on Shabbat, and the nearest general hospital is a short bus ride away on Mount Scopus. See health fund branches and urgent care.
The four kupot
The municipality lists:
- Clalit: Kikar Yahalom commercial centre (02-5359111). Clalit also runs clinics at 33 Derech Tzemach HaSadeh (02-5353500) and 15 HaEven St in Nofei HaSela (02-5350222, with a pharmacy), and a women's health centre in the Karso Centre.
- Maccabi: in the Kanyon building at 5 Derech Kedem (02-5913200), and a second centre at 31 HaRekhes St, Nofei HaSela (02-5060520). Maccabi's service guide lists 31 doctor entries in the city, and nearly all list English among their languages.
- Meuhedet: in the Kanyon (02-5412111).
- Leumit: HaKeren (02-5355069).
Urgent care: Terem
Terem Ma'ale Adumim, 68 HaEshel St (1-599-520-520), treats babies, children and adults, with a lab and X-ray (X-ray 09:00-23:00, with a referral). Terem's own page gives the hours as Sun-Thu 09:00-23:30, Fri 08:00-23:30 and Sat 09:00-00:00. What you pay depends on your health fund's agreement, and a doctor's referral can exempt you from the fee. For round-the-clock care, Terem's Romema branch in Jerusalem (15 Sderot Sarei Yisrael) is open 24 hours.
Medicine at night or on Shabbat
This system surprises newcomers. For urgent prescription medicine at night, on Shabbat or a holiday, call the municipal hotline (02-5354888 or 107). It contacts that day's on-call pharmacist. The on-call pharmacy does not take walk-in customers, and you need a doctor's prescription. The rota rotates between Clalit, Maccabi, Meuhedet, Leumit, Super-Pharm and Brosh, and the municipality publishes it month by month.
Daytime pharmacies: Maccabi, Super-Pharm and Meuhedet in the Kanyon, Brosh (Kikar Yahalom 8, open Fridays 08:00-15:00), Clalit (Kikar Yahalom 4) and Leumit (Kikar HaKeren 2). Super-Pharm also opens on Motzei Shabbat.
Babies: Tipat Halav
The municipality lists Tipat Halav at Kikar Yahalom (073-3816622). Clalit's data lists two stations: Yahalom at Kikar Kedem (02-5352848) and Tzemach HaSadeh at 2 HaTzaftzefa St (02-5352810). I have not been able to confirm whether these are one station or two, so call first. The Ministry of Health line *5400 advises parents of children 0-6 (Sun-Thu 16:00-21:00, Fri 08:00-13:00).
Hospitals
Hadassah Mount Scopus (8 Churchill Blvd, Jerusalem) is the nearest general hospital, open 24/7 with an emergency department and delivery rooms. Buses 120 and 211 and intercity 481 stop at "Hadassah Har HaTzofim / Sderot Churchill". Bus 129 runs to the Hadassah Ein Kerem junction.
Emergencies
- 101 for Magen David Adom. A new MDA station building opened in the city in July 2024.
- A local United Hatzalah team of volunteer medics responds 24/7, often before the ambulance arrives.
- In an emergency the municipality opens a resilience centre for anxiety and stress. At other times, 107 can connect you to an on-call psychologist or social worker.
Equipment loans
Yad Sarah has lent medical equipment in the city for 29 years and opened a larger centre (Beit Nuriel Getz) in September 2026. I have not found its new street address yet.
